trămđốt

Dec 2023 — Jun 2024

Visual identity and website design for an online crowdfunding platform focused on creative & cultural products in Vietnam. I was invited to collaborate on the visual direction for this ambitious project by ltlt.company.

After the closure of Ươm, a renowned hangout in Saigon’s creative scene, its founder, ltlt.company, has transitioned its legacy into the digital world with their latest cultural platform, trămđốt.

trămđốt design tries capture the nostalgic aesthetics of massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) from the 2010s. These games, including titles like Club Penguin or the Vietnamese equivalents like Online Gunny and Bang Bang, were immensely popular among our generation.

2. Visual Identity:

Given that the platform will primarily cater to the Vietnamese community, it would be beneficial to integrate cultural elements into its identity in a unique and meaningful way. With this in mind, and aligning with the MMO game theme, we drew inspiration from ASCII art but added a distinctive twist by incorporating Vietnamese diacritics.

The main typeface originally comes from Jgs Font by Adel Faure, which has been specifically designed to draw ASCII art. I tried to Vietnamize the font and add in some decorative details like the balls at the terminals, swashes, while keeping its technical feat to draw ASCII art.

For social media, I created this fun create-your-own-ASCII web for the audience to have their personalized ASCII person, using our idiosyncratic font. You can try here https://nguoi.tramdot.app/

It’s nice that it created a lot of attention. Thanks to all the friends to try on our small little fun mascot.
